Rabindra Sarobar Lake Restoration

The "Clean Up Clam" initiative aims to restore Rabindra Sarobar Lake's ecological health using Villorita cyprinoides (black clams). These clams will naturally filter the water, reducing pollution, eutrophication, and enhancing biodiversity. This project addresses critical environmental challenges to transform the lake into a sustainable urban oasis.

About the project

Starting point

Extensive research and data from similar ecosystems support the introduction of black clams. Studies highlight their effectiveness in natural filtration and improving water quality, reinforcing the viability and potential success of this initiative.

Collaboration and Implementation

We are collaborating with the West Bengal Department of Environment to introduce black clams into the lake. These clams are being sourced from Kerala to ensure optimal results and adaptation.

End result

Filtration of 250,000 liters of water daily will enhance water quality, reduce eutrophication, and boost biodiversity, transforming Rabindra Sarobar Lake into a sustainable urban oasis.
